Distribution of Agricultural Lands in Turkey

Geographical distribution of agricultural lands in Turkey is dependent on the natural characteristics and physical factors of environment.

Generally, the cultivation and plantation areas are in dispersed parts in Turkey. Agricultural lands are located on tectonic lowlands, coastal lowlands, river deltas, carstic lowlands, plateaus, erosion plains, and slopes having a suitable elevation.

Cereals and other plant products are grown on 196 million 243 thousand and 701 decares of the agricultural lands which sum up to 237 million 625 thousand 724 decares in total.

According to the provisional data of 2017, in Turkey, 5 provinces having the largest agricultural lands in total are as following respectively:

The largest agricultural land is in Konya

  • Konya 18,861,560 decares,

  • Ankara 11,827,261 decares,

  • Şanlıurfa 11,071,164 decares,

  • Sivas 7,917,756 decares,

  • Yozgat 5,973,214 decares.

 

5 provinces having the smallest agricultural lands in total are as following respectively:

  • Yalova 116,708 decares,

  • Artvin 296,921 decares,

  • Bingöl 300,476 decares,

  • Ardahan 360,805 decares,

  • Bartın 392,259 decares.
